It is true! Students do not need to audition to enter the lower two orchestras in Got Strings? Youth Orchestra. We have a firm belief that we continue with the instruction provided in the schools and with private teachers; without whom, students would not be inspired to do more on their instrument. We take foundation strings skills a step further by challenging well-laid musical skills, teaching advanced performance techniques, and instilling the important value of learning to give back to the community through our heartfelt performances.
To be accepted into Got Strings?, simply print out our Registration / Insurance Waiver form, then have your private or school teacher complete the "ability level" portion of the registration form. Once we have received your forms and tuition, we will place you in either the Advanced or Extreme! group, according to ability, not age. Entrance into INRUSH requires an audition. Contact us for more information.
Our Mission To provide a unique and cutting-edge musical experience for the area’s accomplished young string players, empowering them with the ability to “play it forward” in their community.
Got Strings? Youth Orchestra, Inc. is a 501c3, non-profit community youth orchestra that was created by Deirdre Edgell in 2007. Our smaller chamber orchestra sizes provide a vehicle to hone important performance-based skills that are difficult to cultivate in larger settings:
It is our goal to build on the skills students learn from their school or private teachers by providing in-depth rehearsals, and performances throughout the community in various venues including, nursing homes, festivals, fundraisers, and in our three annual concerts.
Got Strings? is a performance-based organization. This means that we teach our students to prepare a vast music repertoire, just as professional musicians do, by keeping the older pieces as part of an ongoing repertoire and revisit pre-learned songs to sculpt them further musically. We choose certain pieces to repeat each concert, as well as learning 3-4 new works each semester.
Our three orchestra levels plays in a Family Concert at the end of each 12-week semester. We also provide music for area nursing homes on our Family Concert weekend, as part of our community outreach program.
We invite you to come to one FREE rehearsal with Got Strings? and explore the joys of playing music with us.
"Though its members are youthful, the Got Strings Orchestra operates like one of its more professional counterparts. " - The Intellegencer, 2012
“Thank you for your interest in supporting the school music program and its teachers. It is a support to me to have teachers in the area, such as yourself, to recommend to students who are looking for ways to further the skills they have learned in school. Also holding high the value of student musicians contributing to their school programs for both sharing their gifts and talents with the school body as well as for all the opportunities that allows them. Lastly, your being an advocate of the arts and promoting them in the community is a great help. Thanks for your work with our young musicians”. ~A local strings teacher 2014
“Thank you for all you do to inspire, motivate and teach these young musicians!“ ~ A Got Strings family 2013
